The Great Thief

Chapter 875 - Magistrate Barthilas

This Mold was naturally given to March Rain, to whom Lu Li also explained the T0 equipment sets.

Although the real T sets started from T1, the T0 set demonstrated that the player had fought in Strathholme in a time of need. The fact that T0 was a generation of classic equipment had its merits; this set of equipment could be further upgraded by doing other quests. For now, if you could equip an item from the set, it would probably be a few points stronger than whatever you were wearing before.

Lu Li also wanted to have one. The Thief’s T0 was called the Shadowcraft set, and when all eight parts were equipped, it would double his strength.

In the first three months of the game, Lu Li had emerged as a force to be reckoned with.

After two years of experience from his past life, his various in-depth studies of the game had been rewarded in his rebirth. Most called him the number one player of the game.

Even legendary players like Sorrowless, the God of Mages, had to step aside.

Only Lu Li knew what had truly happened. Some of the outcome had been the result of his hard work, but it had mostly been because of his rebirth.

Without rebirth, he wouldn’t have been able to obtain the Supreme Ring, nor would he have been able to achieve so many Dungeon First Clears.

Compared to Lu Li, the other experts needed to learn to slowly adapt. They had to improve a little at a time and break their old habits.

Now, three months had passed.

Although Lu Li was still making progress, his progress was much slower than the other experts.

Among the elite players, there were a few that had been born to play games. Players like Sorrowless, Water Fairy, Deadly Gold Underpants, Full-time Assistance, Floral Paralysis and Wood Fearing were all progressing at astonishing speeds. Some, like Moonlight and Unforgettable Maple, had been playing games for so many years that they had been ingrained into their lives. There were others who weren’t that talented, but had been playing for as long as ten or twenty years, clawing their way to the top. These were players like Green Flag Wine, Lucky Southern Persian, Dancing Star dream…

The gap between Lu Li and the others was closing, and he had to continue arming himself through various means in order to maintain his advantage.

The rich players were going to continue becoming richer, and the poor were going to get poorer.

Capital was everything, and Lu Li now had a foothold on which to take advantage of it.

After the commotion with the set, the Xin Xin Mercenary Group was overcome with exhaustion.

It was only after clearing out the nearby monsters that they discovered that the spirit towers hadn’t been properly dealt with. This meant that the next Boss couldn’t be seen because the towers were still standing.

Lu Li had also been too rash, and had no choice but to take them back to clear it all again.

Fortunately, the monsters in the towers were just elites. The Boss had been killed, so they weren’t much of a threat.

The System prompted them that the Ash’ari Crystal had been destroyed, and the slaughterhouse had been reinforced.

The slaughterhouse door opened and a new Boss appeared outside the game. It was the mayor of Stratholme, Barthilas.

Barthilas was one of the many innocent people who had been killed when Arthas and his troops were purifying Stratholme. The Lich King eventually awakened the former mayor from his tomb and ordered the Undead monster to guard his home.

Lu Li had read the biography. The author who wrote about the mayor of the town did so critically.

Barthilas once followed Tirion Fordring as a Paladin. He was one of the few insiders to the events of Old Fordring and the Orc Eitrigg.

Old Fordring had abandoned the hatred between races, but Barthilas, whose parents had died in the First Orc War, did not stop. He hated the Orcs so much that he abandoned all principles of honor.

Upon hearing Fordring shouting about the “damned orcs” in his sleep, he and Dathrohan launched the raid. When Fordring saw Eitrigg being escorted back to the city and was being beaten, he attacked Barthilas’ subordinates. Barthilas took this opportunity to sue Fordring in court.

Afterwards, Barthilas finally settled on the position of Mayor of Stratholme after a few setbacks.

In Old Fordring’s widely circulated quote, “Ethnicity does not determine nobility. I have seen the noblest Orcs and the worst humans”, it was widely known that the Orc in question was Eitrigg, while the human in question was always said to be this mayor.

In the end, nothing survived the onslaught of the Scourge, and even the dead weren’t allowed to stay dead.

“Wandering can take this Boss,” Lu Li said as he stepped forward and stopped Azure Sea Breeze. Although Magistrate Barthilas used physical attacks, the nature of Paladins allowed them to avoid more critical hits.

This rule would be slowly explored by the players – an equipped Paladin were stronger here than an equipped Warrior.

The Paladin that became a ghoul seemed to have retained some fear of the Holy Light. Even those who had been reanimated didn’t completely forget their past.

Someone that couldn’t do any critical hits did not pose much of a threat to a Main Tank.

After hearing Lu Li talk about Magistrate Barthilas, everyone felt a righteous indignation towards the Mayor.

Would they have let him go even if he was a good person?

Wandering didn’t object to Lu Li’s instruction. Since Lu Li had specifically asked him to fight, he didn’t mind it. They just needed to exchange some equipment and the greatest asset of this group was their equipment.

The equipment that he exchanged was exquisite. Even Main Tanks from some mid-range guilds were not as well equipped as him.

“The city belongs to me, the great Barthilas. I will become nobility and my glory will pass from generation to generation. Are you ready to face my anger?” Magistrate Barthilas boomed as he opened his dark red eyes.

“Wandering, be careful and listen for my command to cast your damage reduction skills,” Lu Li reminded.

Magistrate Barthilas was not that powerful, but he was definitely stronger than the previous three bosses because he was level 50!

Level 50 Bosses were in a different league. No matter how weak a level 50 Boss was, it would still be stronger than a level 40 Boss. The Mayor wasn’t that weak, so no matter what happened, the group was bound to get wiped a few times.
