Chapter 1089 - Why Did You Follow Me?
Sensing that Yun Liuli was leaving, Zhou Yuchen’s lips parted.
Yun Liuli carried the plastic bags as she stood up and said to Zhou Yuchen, “I’m leaving. Think about whether you want to cut your hair…”
The moment she talked about cutting hair, Zhou Yuchen’s whole body stiffened even further. He was afraid of revealing his eyes to others. He had this fear for more than ten years… so suddenly having to pull off his “disguise” terrified him.
When he looked up again, he saw that Yun Liuli was already walking away. He subconsciously stood up and followed her, the bag of medication still in his hand.
After she reached the temporary taxi drop-off point, Yun Liuli placed the two large bags in her hands on the ground and shook her hands. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a thin black figure. She turned her head to see Zhou Yuchen standing there.
Their eyes met. Embarrassed, Zhou Yuchen turned around to avoid her with a flustered look on his face.
“Why did you follow me?” Yun Liuli asked Zhou Yuchen.
Zhou Yuchen was embarrassed by Yun Liuli’s question…
He didn’t know why he followed her either!
Zhou Yuchen flusteredly turned around to leave as Yun Liuli had spotted him. Yun Liuli seemed to think of something and called out to him. “Zhou Yuchen!”
A bus roared past them, but Yun Liuli’s clear and melodious voice could still be heard. Zhou Yuchen stopped in his tracks and nervously turned around…
She didn’t know if it was out of pity, but at that moment, Yun Liuli wanted to help Zhou Yuchen. “I want to get my hair cut too! Do you want to go to the hair salon with me? I have to go home and put down my things though!”
Tears welled up in Zhou Yuchen’s eyes after hearing what Yun Liuli said. He nodded but timidly remained where he was.
“Then let’s go! I still have to go home and put down my things!” said Yun Liuli.
Zhou Yuchen remained where he was and hesitated for a while before finally walking towards Yun Liuli.
He walked until he was a meter away from Yun Liuli, and they stood side by side by the road. A taxi pulled up, and Yun Liuli reached out to flag it down…
Seeing that the taxi had stopped, Yun Liuli bent down to pick up her plastic bags. However, Zhou Yuchen had already picked them up for her.
Yun Liuli didn’t stop him and said, “Put the things in the back. Sit in the front passenger seat.”
Zhou Yuchen nodded. After placing the bags in the backseat, he obediently opened the door to the front passenger seat and stepped into the taxi.
Not far away from them, Xiao Yuan had a cigarette hanging from the corner of his mouth. His eyes narrowed as he watched Yun Liuli and Zhou Yuchen get into the taxi.
“Yo… isn’t that Zhou Yuchen? Why is he getting into the same car as our campus belle?”
Xiao Yuan narrowed his eyes and remained silent. He was thinking of something.
“I really feel indignant for Zhong Qingfei. He likes Yun Liuli so much… and yet she hangs out with that piece of trash, Zhou Yuchen, all the time!”
“Do all pretty girls like pieces of trash now?”
Xiao Yuan’s companions laughed and joked that they also wanted to become pieces of trash so that they could kiss the campus belle Fang Ze.
…
After Yun Liuli stepped into the car, she gave the address for the Cloud Top Condominium, which surprised Zhou Yuchen.
Although Zhou Yuchen didn’t pay attention to the world around him, he knew that the Cloud Top Condominium was the best condominium complex in Haicheng, and it was second to none. It was an extremely expensive place to live in.
The taxi driver pulled up to the entrance of the Cloud Top Condominium. Zhou Yuchen paid him before Yun Liuli could take money out of her bag…
Zhou Yuchen helped carry the large plastic bags and followed behind Yun Liuli step by step, as if he was her tail.
Zhou Yuchen followed Yun Liuli into the elevator, which went up to the penultimate level. When the elevator door opened, Zhou Yuchen helped carry the bags out of the elevator. He then stood still in front of the elevator.
He looked at the huge place and then at Yun Liuli, who was taking the bags over to the open kitchen. She opened the refrigerator door and placed the things she bought from the supermarket inside.
Zhou Yuchen looked down at the large bag in his hand and then stared at the clean marble floor. He then took off his shoes and walked on the floor with his clean white socks as he brought the plastic bag to Yun Liuli.
“Thanks!” Yun Liuli looked at the plastic bag that Zhou Yuchen had placed at her feet. She then bent down to pick up the things inside the bag and shoved all of them into the refrigerator.
Zhou Yuchen then realized that Yun Liuli wasn’t placing the things into the refrigerator—she was clearly shoving them in.
Right, shoving…
Seeing that the things were about to fall, Yun Liuli quickly held onto them with one hand and reached out for the plastic bag with the other. However, her arms were too short to reach the plastic bag…
Yun Liuli exclaimed to Zhou Yuchen, “Help me!”
Zhou Yuchen was speechless.
“Let me do it!” Zhou Yuchen switched places with Yun Liuli and took out all the things haphazardly placed in the refrigerator. He placed them on the kitchen counter and rearranged them before placing them back into the refrigerator.
Compared to the mess that Yun Liuli had created earlier, the inside of the double-door refrigerator now appeared spacious, clean, and tidy.
“You’re so good at this!”
Yun Liuli complimented him sincerely.
Zhou Yuchen placed the fresh fruits and vegetables in the crisper drawer. “I started living by myself when I was 11. The aunties who took care of me personally taught me these skills, making sure that I learned all of them…”
Zhou Yuchen knew how to do a lot more!
At the age of 11, Zhou Yuchen was deemed a freak, as both of his eyes were of different colors. The aunties who took care of him couldn’t stand the pressure put on them by his so-called “uncles” and had no choice but to leave Zhou Yuchen alone. Although they still visited him every now and then, they couldn’t do it every day.
As such, instead of giving him fish, the aunties decided to teach him how to fish. They started to teach him how to live alone.
Yun Liuli didn’t ask further and simply nodded.
She watched as Zhou Yuchen washed his hands at the sink after organizing the refrigerator. His movements as he pulled out a few kitchen towels to wipe his hands were well-practiced. She tossed one of the apples she had washed to Zhou Yuchen. “Let’s go and get our hair cut!”
Zhou Yuchen caught the apple and held it tightly. He then caught up to Yun Liuli and put on his shoes at the door.
Yun Liuli noticed the socks that Zhou Yuchen was wearing. They didn’t look new, but they were clean and white.
After spending time with Zhou Yuchen, Yun Liuli realized that people’s words could sometimes be absurd.
Zhou Yuchen wasn’t even dirty, let alone smelly, but everyone blindly avoided him. Yun Liuli sat beside him before, and she knew that he always smelled faintly of laundry detergent.
To Yun Liuli, Zhou Yuchen was also a bit of a neat freak. After sitting beside him in class a few times, she realized that he didn’t wear the same clothes and shoes every day. His clothes and shoes probably just all looked the same.
When they arrived at the hair salon and walked in, Yun Liuli told the employee who attended to them that she wanted her hair to be cut shorter. She then pointed to Zhou Yuchen, who was sitting obediently on the couch. “Give him a hairstyle that’ll make him look more cheerful.”
