Chapter 6
‘Died in the line of duty?’ The corner of Zhao Youlin’s lips unwittingly curled up in a mocking smile.
When the two shots hit her heart, one of the shots had been fired from behind her, so it should have come from a sniper who had gotten away and hidden in the dark. Meanwhile, the other shot… No one knew it better than herself that the other shot had actually been fired from the two o’clock direction, which the police officer had previously mentioned to her. The shot had come from the assistance team under Captain Li’s lead.
Zhao Youlin had always thought that she would be killed in enemy hands and die in the line of duty when she executed her mission. However, little did she expect that she would be shot by her own comrade from the same team, and the person had done it behind her back from the shadows.
As she thought about it, the expression on her calm face changed a little, which was a rare sight. Nevertheless, before it completely changed, her expression quickly reverted without leaving a trace.
Fortunately, Zhao Youlin’s adoptive mother had passed away five years ago. Moreover, she was an orphan whose parents had passed away due to a misfortune. Therefore, she expected her death to not impact anyone. The saddest person would only be Mu Chen. He might shed his tears for some time, but he would also recover after a short while.
Mu Chen’s mother and Zhao Youlin’s adoptive mother were bosom buddies, and they had grown up together. It was because of this relationship that she had taken care of Mu Chen like he was her own brother. Unfortunately, she would not have such luck in the future.

While Zhao Youlin dwelled on this, she suddenly heard footsteps from the outside. Immediately after, she saw a girl dressed like a maid enter with a tray of ordinary food. There was even a look of impatience on her face as if delivering a meal to Zhao Youlin was humiliating to her.
“Madam, it’s time to eat.” The girl rudely placed the tray of dishes on the desk by the window beside Zhao Youlin and spoke in a nasty manner.
There was a complete lack of respect toward the master based on her manner of speech. Instead, it was full of obvious contempt and hatred.
Zhao Youlin’s eyes sparkled. Mu Tingfeng’s coldness toward her had caused everyone inside the mansion to despise her for not being the apple of his eyes. It was especially so after they had learned about how this lady from a prestigious family had tricked Mu Tingfeng into sleeping with her to gain the position of the Mu family’s mistress. Despite not daring to reveal anything on the surface, they gossiped about all of this behind her back.
Zhao Youlin recalled that time when she had fallen unconscious, she had faintly heard the maids scream in horror. She could sense the girls thinking that as long as Zhao Youlin did not die inside the house, they would not be punished even though they bore an insubordinate attitude and behaved disrespectfully toward her.
Zhao Youlin raised her gaze to look at the rude maid. Mu Tingfeng did not even bother to visit his wife who had barely survived the valley of death even after he had received news of her committing suicide by slitting her wrist. It was apparent that this behavior alone was sufficient for the maids to justify overlooking matters regarding the madam’s life and death.

The maid crossed her arms, and when her impatient stare met Zhao Youlin’s sudden gaze, her heart shivered a little in fear. She noticed that something had somehow changed ever since the woman woke up.
Although she felt fearful, the maid changed her mind as soon as she recalled the madam’s cowardly appearance from before. She instantly straightened her back and frowned as she said, “What are you looking at? Don’t eat if you don’t want to. It’s a waste of food for you to live anyway.”
As she spoke, she reached out for the tray that she had just placed down. She obviously wanted to take the tray away from her just to starve Zhao Youlin. It was not the first occurrence, after all, and the woman could not do anything but endure it.

Unfortunately for the maid, she was destined to be disappointed this time.
Zhao Youlin narrowed her eyes. Just as the maid placed her hand on the tray, she raised her right arm and swiftly smacked her in an accurate and vicious manner.

“Ah!” The next moment, loud thuds and the maid’s high-pitched shrieks cut through the air in the Mu family’s villa.
