Records Of Barton’s Fantastical Events

Chapter 20

When Jim realized that he didn’t fully understand what it meant when Benjamin said, “Zach will make a descendant”, and what kind of process it was, the two of them just looked at each other in confusion.

“Er…” Jim drawled. He repeated Benjamin’s original words, and then tried to explain his own understanding: “I think that it is to turn you into a vampire, or use you to create a vampire, regardless how he is going to do it, I don’t think you will be safe… ”

“Benjamin said that Zach is very fond of me?”

Jim was surprised to find that Louise’s attention seemed to be placed on something else, then this secret human to human discussion entered a dead end.

Let’s leave these two people aside for the time being, and come to the owner of the Grande Funeral Home, Zach’s office. A rectangular piece of paper flew out of Pooky Quinn’s hand and landed on Zach’s desk.

Zach’s eyes fell with the piece of paper. He was thinking that if it was more than ten thousand Dor in cash, maybe he would consider Pooky’s proposal. But it was just a check, whether it was visual or tactile, the vampire felt nothing.

Pooky squinted his eyes, snorted, closed the chequebook, and put it back in the pocket inside his coat. The young master of the Quinn family has changed another formal suit, and Zach couldn’t help but think mischievously, ‘is the suit stained by Benjamin sent to be washed or burned?’

“Ten thousand!” Pooky leaned back in his chair, “This should be enough to compensate for the time you lost! This is my last offer!”

Zach didn’t answer immediately, but picked up the cheque that landed on the table. The amount written on it was indeed ten thousand, and the signature was P.Q., which was an abbreviation for Pooky Quinn. But the cheque header was written the ‘Quinn Group’, which meant that this cheque belonged to the Quin Group, not Pooky’s private account.

Zach smiled and returned the cheque, “I’m sorry, Mr. Quinn, I can’t accept it. As far as I know, Mr. Quinn has no position in the Quinn Group. You cannot represent the Quinn Group, so I don’t think this cheque has any value.”

Pooky slammed on Zach’s desk with his palm, two strong men in black suits behind him stepped forward, staring fiercely at Zach.

“You better recognise the situation at the moment! I may not be representing it today! But tomorrow I will be!” Pooky pressed his hands on the table, leaning forward, staring into Zach’s eyes closely. Perhaps he felt that in this way, he would look more intimidating, “You don’t need to do anything! But you can still get ten thousand as a reward!”

Zach moved his body slightly back. The smell coming out of Pooky’s mouth was very unpleasant, “Mr. Quinn.” Zach took a receipt from the drawer and showed it to Pooky. “Mrs. Quinn has already booked the burial places and funerals for all members of the Quinn family, including you, with a deposit of more than a hundred thousand.”

Pooky was surprised, and he immediately snatched the receipt from Zach’s hand. As he glanced through the receipt, the expression on his face changed rapidly.

“What is this!” Pooky’s hands were shaking with the receipt, “What did she do! That old woman is going to hold the funeral for my parents again!”

Zach noticed the change in the address in Pooky’s words, raised his eyebrows and continued, “Isn’t this great? You see, the Quinn family, starting from your ancestors, will continue to use the same cemetery in the future. Even if you leave this world, you can still be together forever!”

Zach was doing this intentionally!

After Mrs. Quinn came to the Grande Funeral Home in the morning, she first went to the church, settled the funeral arrangement, then went to the western area of the cemetery, and selected the place. When she returned to the Grande Funeral Home, it was already past noon. Benjamin also came back with the statue. After seeing the statue, Mrs. Quinn also chose the style of the coffin from Hank. After doing all this, it was close to two in the afternoon, and only then did she leave.

But when Mrs. Quinn just left, Pooky came, and as if it was the interrogation of a prisoner, he commanded Zach to tell him everything Mrs. Quinn did when he was not with her.

Of course, Zach’s narrative omitted the conversation between him and Mrs. Quinn in the church under the statue of God the Son! If Mrs. Quinn’s action was fast, probably, she was already undergoing a physical examination now!

In the final agreement between Mrs. Quinn and Zach, Zach accepted Mrs. Quinn’s additional clause, ‘Redeem Pooky’s sins in the name of God the Son.’

Well, the reason why there was such a sleep-talking-like clause was that the vampire Zach suddenly revealed Mrs. Quinn, the “truth”, and gave all the credit for the improvement of her body condition to the Holy Water she drank. Of course, Mrs. Quinn would not believe that the Holy Water actually had this kind of ability. But since Zach already had an excuse for his incredible abilities, Mrs. Quinn just pretended that she believed his excuse.

Honestly, I did not understand why Mrs. Quinn trusted Zach, who obviously had the ability that ordinary people didn’t have. I was very curious, but I was naturally incapable of asking Mrs. Quinn this question, so I went to Zach later on and asked him carefully.

Zach answered me like this: “How do you tell a ‘monster’ from a person with a ‘special ability’?” I think it is better for me to show it to you. Look, did you see my teeth? Hmmm, you taste very good. Look, now you are bleeding because I have bitten your artery. Although your consciousness should be a little vague at this time, you are now sure that I am a ‘monster’. Now, don’t struggle, and be good, come, and drink my blood. Um, very good, you see, your wound has healed, and I saved you, if you didn’t see my teeth, and the person who attacked you was not me, then you would think that I was a person with a ‘special skill’. There is a line between the two sides of things, and the key to determine how others treat you, is on this line. Okay, don’t act like you are dying. Now, do you understand?”

After Zach’s ‘explanation’, I still didn’t understand it at the time. The reason was that my brain had insufficient blood supply.

“This old bitch!” Pooky went crazy and shredded the receipt!

Zach didn’t speak, he stared at Pooky’s every move, he was thinking about Mrs. Quinn’s additional clause. ‘Redeem Pooky’s sins in the name of God the Son’, Zach was now a little bit worried about his vague words to Mrs. Quinn, because he couldn’t really judge that this ‘Redeem’ referred to making Pooky disappear in this world, or was it just some form of punishment.

1

From the grammatical point of view, it seemed to be the latter, but he didn’t know what could be used to redeem the crime of murdering his grandfather and grandmother?

If it was the former, it was too simple. Zach could also take the time to say goodbye to the blood of mammals and improve his diet, but the person in front of him was the only legal heirs of the Quinn family after all. Zach really didn’t know in the eyes of Mrs. Quinn, which side was heavier, sin or redemption.

The reason he provoked Pooky now was that later on, he would relay these words to Mrs. Quinn, in order to tilt the balance in Mrs. Quinn’s heart. The best thing was to let Mrs. Quinn say it clearly. And the best of the best would be to get rid of him.

After Pooky vented, he suddenly calmed down, and Zach clearly saw the corner of his lips rise in an instant.

Zach realized that Pooky now found how ridiculous his behavior was.

Alice had seen that Mrs. Quinn’s death was tonight. If Zach didn’t help Mrs. Quinn, this would come true. This Mr. Pooky Quinn was just like his grandmother, who did not want to give his grandson a little satisfaction before she passed away!

This was really a twisted family. In order to irritate the grandson, the grandmother insisted on holding a traditional funeral. In order to anger the grandmother, the grandson desperately wanted to destroy the funeral. Before the event developed to such a twisted state, the grandmother used all resources to restrain the grandson’s freedom, and the grandson tried his best to break the shackles of the grandmother…

The first turning point of all this was that the grandson crossed the moral bottom line. The second turning point was that they came to the Grande Funeral Home. At this point, Zach suddenly had a wonderful sense of ‘destiny’.

“Mr. Quinn, I don’t think I have any more to say, please leave.”

Ding Ding Ding…

Zach made a hand gesture, signaling them to leave and then answered the phone, “Grande Funeral Home, how can I help?”

“I’m looking for SS.”

Zach covered the microphone with one hand, and said to the three people, “Close the door, thank you.”

Pooky looked back at Zach and then left the door wide open…

Zach shook his head helplessly, and uncovered the microphone, “I am Zach, I think we need to talk, Mr. Nonhuman, or should I call you Mr. James Rance? Do you have paper and a pen on hand? Please write down our address.”
