Chapter 57
The streets that have their names start with “Becky” are like an upside-down comb on the map of the Northern District of Barton City. The back of the comb is naturally “Becky Street”. From the back of the comb moving toward the south, there were Becky Fourth Street, Becky Third Street… until Becky Middle Street, Becky East Street… If this entire area is circled, it will be the former [Becky District].
The northern end of the [Becky District] is close to Massa Bay, which controls the logistics and transportation north of the Charles River. In the middle is the railway station connecting the city to the outside world. ‘Becky’ is the first prosperous area in Barton. However, with the expansion of the city of Barton, the city was planned for the current three districts: West, North, and South. The former ‘district’ name disappeared and became the current street name.
Zach drove Benjamin’s truck and didn’t take a long detour from Becky Street but stopped directly on Becky East Street at the front end of the comb.
The neon of [Ivy Club] quickly caught Zach’s eyes, and several teenagers with red paper cups leaned out of the window to chat. Ryan is a smart man, he bought time for himself in the crowd.
Zach opened the door of the club, and there seemed to be a commotion in the crowd, not because of the vampire’s entry, but from the inside.
“Wait! Rev…” James pushed aside the crowd, was just about to catch up with the two in front of him, but one hand pressed on his shoulder!
“Get out of the way…” James instinctively shook off the hand on his shoulder, but when he looked back, he saw an unexpected face.
James’ expression changed several times, “Why are you here? !”
“That’s what I want to ask you.” The vampire Zach clicked his tongue. “I remember that I told you not to interact with those people.” Zach looked at the two people who were leaving the club and said with some disappointment.
Although he didn’t want to have the same opinion with Zach, James still replied a little angrily: “I didn’t! He came to me! I need to stop him! He might want to…”
James wanted to push away the crowd and chase behind those two people again, but he was caught by Zach again!
“You don’t want to go. Trust me, Detective Rance.” Zach emphasized on his title.
“You don’t understand!” James shook Zach’s hand away again, “He wants…”
“I know, I know.” Zach shook his head helplessly, approaching James, and whispered in his ear: “Put a coffin nail into his heart and burn it to ashes. Am I right? ”
James opened his mouth in surprise, “So he is right, that kid is…” The conversation between the two has attracted some attention. James closed his mouth and relaxed a little, at least, he now knew Revenge was not going to commit a murder! Or is it?
Zach watched James’ mood change, shook his head again, and pulled him: “Follow me.” After speaking, he walked to the club’s stairs.
Two adults were not particularly conspicuous in such a party, because besides them there were many adults in formal wear here, some of them were college scouts, some were teachers from Raiput, and some were just guardians.
Zach went up the stairs, paying attention to the steps under his feet, and stopped at the third step on the second floor. Zach soon discovered that there were signs of being pried open on the wooden steps leaning against the corner. Zach dispersed the teenager who was chatting against the wall, squatted under the cover of James, and pushed aside the planks of the stairs. A crumpled oil paper bag was taken out by Zach and stuffed into his pocket.
“What is that?” James frowned, watching Zach’s movements. He didn’t think the vampire was doing something legal.
“You want to know?” Zach stood up, leaned forward against the guardrail of the stairs, and looked up one floor. Lola walked out from the inside with an angry face, pushed away the boys and girls who were in the way, and rushed out of the club.
“Let’s leave here first,” Zach said to James with a smile on his face.
James hesitated for a moment, followed Zach to leave the party, and temporarily returned to Benjamin’s van. James was a little surprised. The driver was not Benjamin, so he sat in the front passenger seat conscientiously.
“Where is Benjamin?”
“Sleeping.” Zach started the car.
James watched the driving direction vigilantly. It was towards Liszt Street and his home. He was relieved and asked casually, “This early?”
“Oh? Detective Rance forgot that we are about to know each other for a month?” Zach chuckled lightly and meaningfully.
“Oh.” James realized what he was trying to say.
James has been in this horribly dirty truck many times. As he learned more about Grande, he also gradually realized that this was not caused by Benjamin laziness, but his deliberate act. The rearview mirrors and car windows were all covered with mud to ensure that they would not be able to reflect anything, even the rearview mirror in the car was broken!
James did not forget his initial question, “What are you doing here? And what is the paper bag you took out?”
Zach still avoided the first question, “You mean this?” He held the steering wheel with one hand, took out the bag in his pocket, and threw it to James, with a weird smile on his face: “This It is the ‘despair’ of a soul.”
James, who was about to open the paper bag, stopped his hand and stared at the thing lying on his lap, not knowing what to do.
“Don’t be afraid, open it, and take a look.” Zach smiled and encouraged James.
James hesitated for a moment and began to reach out to the paper bag. There were two layers of paper, the inner layer of paper was written with words, and what was wrapped in it was a handful of tied hair, a kind of wet seed.
“What is this?” James asked.
“Don’t you understand Inan script? Read it.” The vampire was tempting him.
James put the hair and seeds in the outer paper layer, picked up the greased paper, and with the lights outside the car, he began to read: “Run, revenge is coming.” James frowned: “What does it mean?”
“Uh.” The vampire was amused. “That’s the name, Detective Rance, the name of the Inan! Have some common sense, alright?”
James’ face was a little red, and he raised the oil paper again.
“‘Ryan, Revenge is here. Your father and I can’t protect you anymore, he burned your body. Run away, my son! I am very happy that you got a new body. Yes, we have been watching you, and we hope you have a new life. I know you have countless questions, but there is no time to answer you…'”
James’s face was a little gloomy, he looked at Zach who was driving seriously, he still didn’t know how the vampire was involved in this.
“‘Ryan, you are different from your brother. He has been completely swallowed by hatred, he will not understand you. So, run away, my son! I hope you will never need to use this Soul Guiding Grass seed that I prepared for you…'”
James was in a mixed mood. He looked at the vampire: “Then what is this Ryan exactly?”
“Earthbound spirit.” Zach replied: “You know that in the Inan’s funeral, there is a custom of filling the coffin with Soul Guiding Grass, right?”
“I know, so that the dead can find a way back.” James frowned, is this true? !
“To answer the question in your heart.” Zach smiled: “That’s not real. Soul Guiding Grass is only useful in the hands of Shamans, they can use it to summon the departed spirits. Of course, there are accidents. ”
“What do you mean?” James asked, he hated Zach’s way of controlling the course of the conversation — always keep him in suspense
“Didn’t you conduct an investigation on ‘Revenge’? What happened to his younger brother?” Zach asked.
James’ lips twitched and recalled: “The investigation said that he had some herbal tea and then died suddenly on the eve of the game.”
“Well, this is an accident.” Zach tilted his head and said indifferently: “Soul Guiding Grass attracts souls. If you are alive and eat it by mistake, it will be fatal. You will become an earth-bound spirit, and you will be bound forever in the place you died.”
With a frown, James picked up the paper bag with the seeds of Soul-Guiding Grass on his leg, threw it to the front window of the car, and continued to read the words on the oil paper.
“‘I have put a spell on the seed, save a strand of hair, a drop of blood…'”
James’s face turned gloomy, these things really made him feel uncomfortable. The text ended here, he turned over the oil paper, and there was a line on the back.
“‘&*(…&%…%*¥¥#'”
James read this meaningless sentence in confusion, “What is this?”
“It’s a spell, Detective Rance, a Soul Guiding spell.” The vampire smiled, “Look, the spell succeeded.”
“What…”
James threw off the oil paper that suddenly burned!
“What did you let me do!” James’ face was full of horror! The flame wrapped the whole paper in an instant, and it turned into ashes in a moment. Zach stretched out his hand and rolled down the front passenger seat’s window. The black-gray ashes flew out under the air current!
“Don’t overreact, Detective Rance!” The vampire’s light green eyes curled up: “You just saved a soul. Be happy, James Rance, say hello to Ryan!”
“What!” James was in the front passenger seat, patting the ashes on his body, “What did you say? !”
“You!” An unfamiliar voice came from the back seat of the truck: “I saw you with Revenge earlier! I didn’t know that even murderers can be detectives now!”
“Don’t say that, Ryan.” Zach turned his head and looked at the “man” in the back seat: “He saved your soul, you should thank him!”
A chill spread from the back of James’s neck to his whole body! He turned his head slowly.
Like burning paper, the whole body of the young man in the back seat was covered with hollow holes! Around the hollow holes, there were irregular circles of red light, like burnt white paper! But these hollow holes were slowly closing, restoring a complete, translucent body of a teenager wearing a quarterback jacket!
There were illusory sparks flying in the back seat, slowly gathering on the boy’s body, the boy’s face was constantly recovering and becoming clear!
“Con, Connor!” James stared at that face.
“No, Connor’s dead! He was caught, his hands and feet were tied up, and then was stuffed into the trunk! He was dragged to a basement where no one knew where it was, and then gasoline was poured on his body. Under his cries, no one came to rescue him, so he was burned to ashes!” Ryan leaned forward with his body still covered with sparks, and approached James who was staring at him in horror, “And you, you didn’t stop him! You murderer!”
Zach stopped the car. This is Liszt Back Street, “Detective Rance, you are home! Have a sweet dream!”
