Chapter 72 - Chapter 6 Target Set

When the Gale couple left, they made it clear that they would continue their ongoing task of “spreading the method of resignation”. James had nothing to say about this and could only “warn” the two of them not to be discovered by the Barton police.

Zach’s proposal to send the two back home was rejected. The werewolf and the vampire gave each other a tacit look, then Zach stayed in James’ loft, while Benjamin followed the Gale couple and walked onto Liszt Street.

“What did you give.” Benjamin walked next to Spell, and it looked like an ordinary family with a grown-up son and old parents going shopping, “What did you give to Papa Midnight?”

Coord pulled his wife and glared at the werewolf, “It has nothing to do with you!”

Spell put her skinny hand on her husband’s shoulder, “It’s fine, he is the good one, I can feel it.”

Zach once explained the relationship between werewolves and shamans under my constant harassment. I think you also need to know.

Long ago in the colonial era, werewolves and shamans were a family. Yes, I know what I am talking about. They were one family!

In the blood of shamans, some children inherited the abilities of their parents, but some children had no talent. So in order to protect their homes from the colonists’ invasion, the shamans turned to their progenitor Papa Midnight for help. So those children who did not have the talent to become shamans accepted the blood of the vampire “Gangrel”, bore the curse of the full moon, and became werewolves.

And we know that times are always changing. When the Federation was established, shamans were still shamans. They were legal residents of the Federation, but those who had dedicated their bodies and souls had no homes to protect and became nonhumans.

So those werewolves left their homes with loneliness, hidden in the mountains and forests, looking for their own kind, forming a new family – wolf pack, and the ‘wild beast’ created out of guardianship eventually returned to the original intention of guarding the family.

There is no need to have any sad feelings for this because there are also shamans who cannot part with their brothers and family members and join the wolf pack. This is a warm story. With this as a heritage, a powerful wolf pack will be accompanied by shamans.

As I said, times are always changing.

The prosperity of the Federation is the prosperity of people. Nonhumans began to be marginalized and turned into ‘monsters’. This is where you need to feel sad because the shamans who hid in the mountains for the sake of their family will die, but the wolves will always exist, while the majority of them continue to grow.

It is impossible to verify which side sheds the first drop of blood. Some wolves began to prey on shamans, and some shamans became hunters until it became what it was now.

So when Spell said that Benjamin was ‘good’, she was telling the truth. After living together in Barton for more than ten years, this single Alpha never came to disturb the Gale family.

“I gave myself.” Spell did not look at Benjamin, but pressed her right hand on her left chest, “When I…”

Benjamin nodded silently, Papa Midnight would not force his descendants to die and then turn them into Dead Apostles. Spell gave her “life” after her death in exchange for help from Papa Midnight.

“You should come to Grande.” Benjamin thought for a while and said: “Alice can help you.”

Alice is a death-heralding banshee, she can see death, if she wants to escape death and delay the fate of becoming Papa Midnight’s Dead Apostles, Alice is the only way.

With a helpless smile on Spell’s face: “It is Papa midnight, he never cares about it! He just wants to watch us ‘perform’ under the rules set by him. I will not use my life to entertain him!”

The werewolf chuckled, this was the most objective evaluation he had ever heard about Papa Midnight. Remember what the vampire said about Papa Midnight? A guy who wants to be beaten up by the people from churches. Benjamin stopped his smile and sighed helplessly: “Now, what you are doing may also be what he wants to see.”

With a wry smile on her face, Spell acquiesced.

At the end of Liszt Street, Benjamin bid farewell to the Gale couple. After he said ‘take care’, he returned to James’ loft.

The living room of James’s loft is still a sofa that looks exactly like a stone. The crystal coffee table in front of Zach was covered with white paper. Zach held the pen and drew a simple structure diagram on the paper.

At the top of the tree-shaped diagram, it says ‘Papa Midnight’, and there is a question mark next to it, and below it is all the names of the suicides James knew, with more question marks.

This diagram is already very obvious. If Papa Midnight is regarded as the boss of an enterprise, then the question mark on the second level is the middle manager, and then below it is employees.

James stared at the bottom layer, frowned, and asked: “Why do you conclude that all the people who committed suicide are the people at the bottom?”

“Because they are the ones who will do things.” Zach said as if it was very obvious: “The middleman is only responsible for recruiting, and they know that no matter who they kill, he will be resurrected and become an employee. Is this stress that needs to be relieved by committing suicide? No.”

“I need more evidence!” James stared at the vampire.

“This is your proof.” Zach took out the weekly “Urban Legends” magazine that had been stuffed in his pocket, turned to the article with an unusual name, and pointed to the words of the deceased’s family and friends quoted by the author. Every deceased was struck by unexpected luck before committing suicide.

James read it patiently. These were not secrets. The reason why this suicide case has attracted attention is that in addition to the weird methods, everyone chose to end their lives when their lives were being blessed. This is very abnormal.

“Is this real?” James read the entire article without realizing it: “This midnight exchange? This was opened by Papa Midnight. ”

“Uh-” Zach pouted: “Of course not! You are the Barton police officer. Have you seen this place on the map of Barton? ” Zach smiled: “But there is one thing it mentioned is right. The employee was paid but the work was not done.”

James dropped the magazine. What kind of job was it? Zach said that it was a kind of ‘work’ that people would rather die than do it.

“What are we going to do?” James irritably picked up the paper on the coffee table and stared at the “Papa Midnight” at the top.

“You are looking at the wrong place.” Zach directly held James’ hand and tore off the top that says “Papa Midnight”, waved in front of James, with a mocking smile: “This guy, don’t even think about it.” Zach tore off a bunch of names and question marks at the bottom, and threw them on the coffee table: “These, will be handled by the Gale couple. You can’t deny that they are very good at doing it.”

Zach finally pointed to the big question mark in the middle: “This, is what we are going to do.”

James’ eyes still lingered on the question marks that were torn off and placed on the coffee table. He didn’t know how many people would commit suicide in such a strange way in Barton City in the future! Such unknownness made him distressed.

After a moment of silence, James withdrew his gaze and stared at the big question mark still in his hand: “How do we find this, or these middlemen?”

Zach nodded in satisfaction and patted James on the shoulder: “You said that one of the deceased was kidnapped. If it was not the Gale couple, but who do you think it will be? Detective Rance, work harder and do your job well, then we will find it. ”

The target has been set, now James needs to get to work.
