Chapter 885
Jiang Yuning nodded his head and shook his hand.
Bonny waited a while but Jiang Yuning never said anything in reply.
Uncle Han quickly explained in English saying, “Mr. Jiang doesn’t like to speak.”
Bonny was stunned for a while but decided that he had to interact with Mr. Jiang as if he was a mute.
However, he wasn’t surprised. Many of his fellow scientists liked to stay in their laboratories without much contact with the outside world. They slowly developed an anti-social personality.
Of course, other physicists weren’t that good at science, but superb at socializing, rising in the ranks. He was one of those scientists.
He wasn’t displeased at the fact that Jiang Yuning was a mute; he would find an opportunity later on to humiliate him.
“This is… Mr. Jiang’s girlfriend, I presume?” Bonny looked over at Nian Xi, his eyes lighting up. Nian Xi wasn’t the typical girl-next-door Chinese girl. She almost looked handsome and appealed to the Westerner’s beauty standards.
Before Nian Xi spoke, Jiang Yuning frowned and pulled her to stand behind him. Bonny was stunned and laughed. “Mr. Jiang. You are really protective over your girlfriend I see.”
Jiang Yuning nodded his head.
A few more researchers were entering the event hall and Bonny walked over to greet them. Jiang Yuning wasn’t good at socializing. He was young and hardly been to these sorts of events before. Most of the other attendees were standing around in circles talking to each other but he was the only one standing alone.
After about five minutes, a Chinese physicist approached him. He looked like he was over sixty years old and his hair was white. “Yuning. I didn’t expect you to be the one attending this time.”
Jiang Yuning bowed to the man respectfully. “Professor Wang…”
Professor Wang was stunned and he burst out into a light chuckle. “You’re different now that you have a girlfriend. It was so difficult for you to speak a word in the past. You were always holding onto a notepad and a pen. Aiyo, that really gave me a headache. It made me afraid to talk to you.”
Nian Xi couldn’t help but laugh. She could imagine how he spoke before. “Professor Wang, hello, I…”
“Miss Nian really changed Mr. Jiang in many ways.” Uncle Han interrupted her saying, “Only she could confiscate Mr. Jiang’s little notepad and force him to talk.”
“Impressive.” Professor Wang gave her a thumbs up. “I always thought this chap was going to stay single for the rest of his life. I didn’t expect anyone to fall in love with him. Treasure him. Although Yuning doesn’t talk much and is a little eccentric, he is a good lad.”
Nian Xi reacted quickly to Uncle Han’s cue saying, “I will. Yuning is very innocent and adorable.”
“You know him well.” Professor Wang smiled. “Oh right, Yuning. I haven’t heard from you for two years. What have you been up to?”
Uncle Han said apologetically, “Mr. Jiang was really burnt out from an experiment he was doing. He went back to his hometown to recuperate for about a year. He has been working at Xia City this year and he will be a visiting professor at the Xia City’s Technological Institute Department of Physics next year.”
Professor Wang was shocked. “How can you be a lecturing professor if you don’t enjoy talking?”
Jiang Yuning wrote on his notepad, ‘Things will work out eventually.’
“…”
Nian Xi held herself back from laughing; this guy had good language skills.
“All right then. I’ll come down to support you when the time comes,” Professor Wang said enthusiastically. He looked over at the group of Westerners gathered in a circle. “These bunch of European bastards. They only know how to suck up to Christian from America. To be honest, our technology isn’t far from the U.S now. Yuning, with your talent and gift in physics, you might even be better than Christian.”
Jiang Yuning nodded his head and wrote, ‘Christian is older than me by forty years. We should respect the elderly and dote on the young.’
