Chapter 324
Feng Tianlan frowned slightly after hearing the girls exchange words with the intention of lettings down their guards. She looked back and confirmed that they had indeed passed by the carnivorous flowers earlier. Lin Suyin had definitely known that they were Man-Eating Flowers, so why hadn’t she spoken up earlier? Why wait to say something helpful until Yunzhu was about to touch it?
This way of doing things was rather ridiculous in Feng Tianlan’s estimation.
Feng Tianlan looked over at Lin Suyin and said, “I looked back and realized that we’ve passed by these Man-Eating Flowers earlier already.”
Luo Yunzhu turned around and saw that there had indeed been several Man-Eating Flowers along the way. She immediately started doubting Lin Suyin.
Lin Suyin calmly explained, “I wasn’t sure if it was really a Man-Eating Flower at first. By the time I confirmed it, Miss Luo had already put her hand out…”
“I see.”
Feng Tianlan’s reply was a little stiff, so Lin Suyin just smiled awkwardly then went back to her team when the time was right.
When Luo Yunzhu saw how Lin Suyin had reacted so naturally, she wondered if she had been too narrow-minded. “Tianlan, is it because I started off biased against her that I’m overthinking everything now?”
“We ought to be wary at all times.” Feng Tianlan believed her own intuition more than Lin Suyin’s explanation.
Luo Yunzhu nodded. “Whether she’s sincere or not, she wants to gain our favor. We’ll just let her be for now and see if she’s got any other motives.”
Azurite walked over to Feng Tianlan and said a little anxiously, “Master, the smell of blood is in the air. Let’s get out of here.”
“Yunzhu, let’s go.” Feng Tianlan had a bad premonition as well. She placed one hand on her dagger and clasped Luo Yunzhu with the other. She started to walk lightly on her toes, ready to fly from this place.
CHEEP!
The shriek of a bird could be heard overhead. Then, with a loud bang, some liquid poured down from the sky, and the stench of blood filled the air. The vast forest suddenly became eerily quiet, and there was danger everywhere.
“It’s blood! And the flesh is all mushy.”
“A bird flying overhead suddenly exploded.”
Lin Suyin quickly ran over to Feng Tianlan and shouted, “Run, quickly! The Man-Eating Flowers have smelled the blood and flesh, so they’re gathering to attack.”
SWOOSH!
A green vine cut viciously through the air toward them. It moved as if it were conscious.
“AHH! Save me!”
There was a scream, and everyone turned to look. The green vine had curled itself around the straggler of Lin Suyin’s team and was retreating swiftly.
Lin Suyin waved her hand, and a silver light flashed. A silver needle flew out, hit the vine, and the straggler fell to the ground.
Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!
The vines hanging from the tree suddenly came alive and flew toward them, attacking as one. The Man-Eating Flowers seemed to have woken from their slumber. Their stems extended, and their mouths opened wide, aiming for their prey.
Feng Tianlan’s eyes grew cold. She waved the dagger in her hand expertly, so neither the vines nor the flowers came near.
Luo Yunzhu pulled out her whip and cut apart one vine as she shouted anxiously, “Tianlan, use your fire to burn them!”
“I can’t!” Feng Tianlan had slashed a vine only to find that it had grown back into two vines instead.
This was a vast forest, so using fire here could ignite a massive forest fire. Instead of being devoured by the vines, they might end up consumed by fire instead.
After some time, the vines had not decreased in number but increased instead. The vines would start growing the moment they hit the ground, and every time one was slashed, it would grow into two new vines. If things went on like this, sooner or later, the vines would exhaust them.
“What are we going to do? There are more and more of them.” Luo Yunzhu stood back to back with Feng Tianlan, guarding her rear.
“We can’t chop them. The more we whack, the more their numbers increase.” Lin Suyin looked at the hundreds of vines. As she was explaining that they shouldn’t chop them, she was still hacking at the ones that came her way.
