Chapter 1214 - Chasing After A Far Away Husband? (4)
Mu Yuchen did not go out that day. After Li Si left, he went to the study desk and took the documents from the table that Li Si had arranged. He turned around in his chair and faced the window before him before silently flipping through them.
The weather in New York was not that great that day as it was a rainy day. For it to be a rainy day during this season made it quite cold outside. Water droplets gathered at the glass windows, and when you looked out through the French window, the sky seemed gloomy.
Nevertheless, this did not affect the warmth of the room. The world seemed to suddenly quieten down, so you could occasionally hear pages being flipped or a light cough.
Mu Yuchen was fully focused. When a faint and familiar smell reached his nose and before he could react, a pair of small hands had already gently covered his eyes, so all the scenery was hidden by this pair of fair hands.
Then, the person did not say anything.
After a while, he reached up to hold those hands, then pull her into his arms while his soft voice said raspily and sensitively, “Awake?”
Xi Xiaye went along and sat on his lap. She brushed her slightly wet hair and looked at him with bright, starry eyes. “Are you still down with the cold? Has it gone on for a while?”
“Almost recovered. It’s just that my throat’s still hoarse. Are you hungry? Have something to eat,” he responded with a hoarse voice while his handsome face brimmed with a smile.
“I’m alright, not too hungry.”
“Didn’t you say you were hungry last night?” He chuckled and squinted at her. His eyes were filled with a meaningful light and his gaze fell onto her fair collarbones…
When she saw his gaze, she felt her face go hot, and then she shot him an embarrassed glance. She pulled up her clothes by her shoulders to cut off his burning gaze. Unexpectedly, he only smiled and said, “What? Do you know how to be shy now? Last night, I didn’t see you…”
“So much to say, hmm? You weren’t shy either!”
Before he could finish, she already seemed annoyed. Her shame was turning into anger now.
He suddenly lowered his head, but he smiled without a word as his fingers very familiarly combed through her long hair.
When Xi Xiaye saw that he kept quiet, she asked softly, “What are you looking at?” Her gaze went to the document in his hand.
Mu Yuchen wanted to keep it away, but he was too late. Xi Xiaye shot him a suspicious look. “What document is that? Why are you being so mysterious? Won’t you let me take a look?”
As she said that, Mu Yuchen immediately handed the document to her. He said in a low, raspy voice, “Of course not. I don’t have any secrets from you. I just didn’t want you to worry too much, but since you want to take a look, then have it.”
Xi Xiaye pursed her lips and smiled gladly. Then, she pushed his hands away gently. “I don’t want to look then. I trust that as long as you’re good, we’re good. I don’t care about anything else.”
“It’s fine. Take a look. I came over this time for this too, and right now it’s getting quite sticky. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been stuck here for so long,” Mu Yuchen sighed and said.
Upon hearing that, Xi Xiaye was stunned. She was not too clear about the actual situation, but she vaguely knew that something had happened to Zhou Zimo over here. She rarely saw him looking this downcast. Now that she thought about it, the situation must be a tough one to handle.
She thought about it for a moment, then Xi Xiaye looked through the document, the more she read it, the heavier her expression looked. Towards the end, her brows were furrowed into a knot…
“How did this happen? Did he sustain such severe injuries? How is he now?” Xi Xiaye could not help but worry as she asked.
No wonder after her conversation with Su Chen that night, Su Chen looked worried too. He was about to curse at Mu Yuchen and Zhou Zimo.
However, right now, why did Zhou Zimo’s incident seem so familiar?
She remembered that because of Gu Lingsha’s drug use, she was still detained at the police station and had not been released till now. Qi Kai and the Hui Gu Corporation were affected, and their stocks fell tremendously. Now, Qi Kai was a mess.
As she thought about it, the incident seemed eerily similar to Zhou Zimo’s situation.
Xi Xiaye seemed to have some thoughts. She was afraid that after knowing about the problem over here, he decided to copy it and use the same method.
Had that incident been arranged by Mu Yuchen?
Su Chen had said that at the time he only called the police over and that everything else had been arranged otherwise…
When she thought about that, Xi Xiaye’s gaze suddenly froze and she stared at Mu Yuchen.
“He’s conscious now. His injuries are quite severe, so he needs to stay hospitalized for observation. Otherwise, he might need to be brought straight back to the police station to be detained, and that’s why before that, I need to find some strong evidence to prove his innocence,” Mu Yuchen explained, the gloom in his tone evident.
Xi Xiaye paused for a while as she could not help but worry. “But if the evidence is really conclusive, I’m afraid this won’t be resolved so easily. You haven’t told the Zhou family people about this, have you?”
Xi Xiaye could imagine that if the Elder from the Zhou family found out about this, he would just faint from anger!
“Elder Zhou’s not been in the pink of health lately, so we’ll try not to mention it to him if it can be resolved. Besides, it’s a good thing to keep this a secret from them. Their statuses don’t make them suitable to handle this issue. This was also what Zimo was worried about.”
Elder Zhou was someone who was in the military field while the Zhou family was also important in the political field and the entire family did things with extreme caution. If they knew what happened to Zhou Zimo, it would not be a good thing.
“But the truth will come out eventually…” Xi Xiaye hesitated.
“We’ll take it one step at a time. Right now, the situation’s not that adverse. When Zimo’s recovered a little more, it’ll be better for us to act.” Mu Yuchen’s composure returned.
Xi Xiaye breathed in and nodded. “Mmm, that’s the only way. Right, there’s one more thing I wanted to ask you…” she hesitated but finally could not help but ask.
“Mmm? What is it?” Mu Yuchen answered, relaxed. His long fingers were casually fixing her beautiful long hair as he said in a lowered voice, “It seems like your hair’s gotten longer recently. You’ll need to get it cut later on. Otherwise, it’ll just be hard for you to manage.”
“I don’t look good with short hair, Mr. Mu.”
