Chapter 111 - Abused to Death
The dozen or so warships attacking Red Rock Base were of varying shapes and sizes, and so was their equipment. Gauss cannons, laser cannons, missiles, blasters… Different types of weapons were assaulting the base’s energy shields with seemingly no rules or directions to follow.
Their formation was incredibly weird as well; normally, the main assault ships should be in the front because they would be the best at breaking down the defense and absorbing enemy firepower to protect smaller allied ships.
In contrast, these guys had their ships arranged in line like soldiers at a gun practice.
Any experienced commander would never use a formation such as this, for not only would it spread their firepower, it would expose the ships with weaker defense to enemy fire, essentially giving the enemies free fire at their allies.
Red Rock Base was a combat station built by the military, after all. Although it had long been abandoned, nor was its present commander someone affiliated to the army, an old tiger still had its claws. The energy shields securely protected the base within. The return fire was also being delivered from the huge cannons with an implied message of ‘come at me’.

The commander of the base quickly found the enemy’s weakness; gathering sixteen large Gauss cannons, he had the base’s firepower focused on a smaller enemy warship.
“Target, Burst-class frigate; attack at full force!” Xia Fei commanded.
As they said, ‘kick one while they’re down.’ This Burst-class frigate did not even have the energy to activate its shields, and there was no better opportunity for Xia Fei to launch his attack.
Four enhanced laser cannons appeared from the ship’s sides. The Anathema-class frigate threw away its previously docile look and finally unleashed its actual terrifying visage.
The bald man in the Burst-class frigate was at a loss for words.
“Turn on the energy shield; retreat immediately!”
“We’re out of energy! The reactor isn’t even at ten percent capacity; we can’t activate it at all! My goodness! Weapons systems aren’t firing either because of the lack of energy! We’re done for!”
*Plop!*
The bald man fell into his seat with sweat dripping down his forehead.
Only then did he realize that they had fallen into the grave Xia Fei had dug for them long ago. Any bit of struggle before death was futile. Lack of energy was the worst nightmare for any warship.
*Boom boom boom!*
The laser cannons launched vicious attacks at the Burst-class frigate. No, it was more like abuse because their opponent could not do anything to retaliate, and there was nothing they could do other than take the shots.
“Destroy them!” Xia Fei ordered loudly.
Dazzling beams of lasers landed on the Burst-class frigate one after another. Soon, the warship was ablaze.
Xia Fei enjoyed this experience, which was comparable to shooting fish in a barrel, but what was even more satisfying was testing out the abilities of the energy-draining device.
The top-tier special ops frigate certainly deserved its name, and the energy-draining device’s abilities were borderline absurd.
It was like a ruthless vampire, sucking away all of the enemy’s blood, breaking their modes, and breaking the enemy’s spirits.
There was no room for sympathy toward the enemies. The Anathema-class frigate-class frigate did not just kill its enemies but essentially abused them alive.
“What’s up, Baldy? Why aren’t you returning fire? Why aren’t you returning fire?!” yelled one of the fleetmate of baldy’s through the communicator. Because of the large distance between them, they could only watch Baldy’s ship get destroyed by Xia Fei while having no ability to retaliate.
Everyone wanted to know what was happening with Baldy and why was he not returning fire.
“It’s a trap; it’s a trap!” Baldy’s eyes were emotionless as if his soul had been sucked out of him. He muttered this to himself hopelessly.
A bright flash of light appeared, followed by a huge explosion. The Burst-class frigate was completely destroyed, leaving only wreckage behind.
Xia Fei lit a cigarette as he watched the ship turn into fireworks with a sly smirk on his face.
“Satisfying, that was incredibly satisfying!” Phantom said excitedly.
The battle had already been decided. As the assaulters had a terrible strategy, only three battlecruisers and one destroyer on the brim of falling apart were left after attacking the base.
It was nearly impossible to use the firepower of three battlecruisers to penetrate the energy shield of Red Rock Base, so the commander ordered his men to retreat.
Fireworks lit up space again, then the destroyer was blown into smithereens by a Gauss cannon in the process of retreating.
Xia Fei, who was hiding from a distance, enjoyed this war film first before requesting entry into Red Rock Base.
Everyone in the base saw how Xia Fei had sunk an enemy’s Burst-class frigate, so there was no reason for them to avoid him. Just a minute after his request, the doors to the base opened, allowing Xia Fei to fly inside and land his ship at the port.
“Xia Fei!” Sarah was happily surprised and she ran over to hug him, barely containing herself. Not far away, Allen watched this with a smile on his face, though Xia Fei felt that his smile was a bit weird.
“Are you alright?” Sarah seemed to have remembered something before pushing Xia Fei away with her two hands.
Xia Fei was a bit embarrassed as he could not fathom how this girl was warm one moment then cold the next.
“I’m alright; who were those attackers?” Xia Fei asked curiously.
“The Owl Pirates,” answered a fair-skinned young man as he walked over. Their tone was neither here nor there, but an undertone of harshness could still be detected.
Xia Fei had heard about this person from Sarah before; this man was the Ning clan’s only young master, Ning Dian. He was notorious for his bad deeds around here; Xia Fei also did not have a good impression of this man after seeing him bully a beggar on the streets.
“This guy is your nephew?” Ning Dian asked as he patted Allen’s back.
“Yeah, a nephew from afar.” Allen quickly bowed and smiled, seemingly quite afraid of Ning Dian.
“Hmm.” Ning Dian nodded. He then quickly told Xia Fei, “Kid, my uncle has some business with you; follow me.”
