Beauty and the Beast: Wolf Hubby XOXO

Chapter 1301 - Farewell Gift

Gregory felt like he should just suavely turn and spread his wings wide, launching straight into the sky toward the Motou mountain range, so as to leave a proud and solitary back profile and an aloof image.

As long as he left, she would never ascend the Motou mountains and would never get the Love of the Sky. And then she could never bear children for those two males.

This line of thinking was very childish, but Gregory couldn’t suppress the sour feeling emanating from his heart.

But it was just wishful thinking. He was unable to open up his wings.

He wanted to say ‘I will be going then’, but when he opened his mouth, it came out as: “How do you plan to ascend the mountain then?”

Gu Mengmeng held her cheek and thought about it, before shaking her head. “I haven’t thought of a solution. We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. If there’s really no other way… I will summon all the land beasts in the Beast World to dig away the mountain for me.”

Gregory’s gaze froze. He asked with a frown. “Are you… being serious?”

Gu Mengmeng laughed. “Of course I wasn’t being serious.”

She took a bite of the food that Elvis was feeding her, chewing a few times before swallowing. She continued. “I know what the Motou mountains mean to the bird tribes. How could I destroy the mountain for my own personal benefit? I was just talking nonsense. Don’t take it to heart.”

Gregory’s eyes dimmed.

Actually, he had hoped Gu Mengmeng was being serious. If so, he would have a reason to yield to her demands. For the sake of all the bird tribes, he could lower his head and say “I will bring you up, please don’t destroy the Motou mountains”.

With such a noble reason, he could conceal his petty and selfish intentions and still remain by her side for a few more days?

Smiling bitterly inside, Gregory realized it had only been a month and he had already become so despicable.

“Then… I will be leaving.” Even as he bid them farewell, Gregory remained unmoving on the spot.

Gu Mengmeng said, “Wait a moment.”

Gregory’s eyes instantly brightened. He was unable to conceal the eagerness in his eyes.

Gu Mengmeng went into the stone castle and came out bearing a beautiful feather fan for Gregory. “I promised to give you the first fan. Take it as a farewell gift. Have a safe trip back.”

With chilly fingertips, Gregory accepted the fan from Gu Mengmeng. His eyes, which had been burning so brightly just then, had dimmed again. He nodded. “Thank you.”

In the end, she still didn’t try to make him stay.

She knew she needed him to ascend the Motou mountain range, but she was still letting him go without any qualms.

He had emphasized once and again that only the leader of the vulture tribe could descend the mountains, and then only at the signal of the great lord. Now that the great lord was no longer around, he would be the last person to come down the mountains. He was her only hope.

He had already clearly outlined his importance, but in her eyes, he remained a mere feather floating past in the wind.

She had even abolished the restraints set down by the marriage contract, destroying any excuse he had to come down the mountains again.

What did she say previously?

Ha, this fan was so beautiful, he could give it to any female he liked and might end up bringing a bride back to the Motou mountains.

But what could he do? The “bride” he wanted to bring back to the Motou mountain range didn’t look like she would appreciate that fan. That was why she had so readily given it to him as a farewell gift.

“Goodbye.”

Gregory’s eyes fell on Gu Mengmeng’s face. In the end, he only managed to squeeze out that one word.

“Mmm, goodbye.” Gu Mengmeng waved at Gregory. There was still no mention of him staying.

Wings spread wide, a vulture circled high up in the skies for a long while, before finally soaring along with the winds and gradually vanishing from the line of sight. All that was left was a stark and lonely ghost of a shadow.
