Chapter 177 - Su Xin’s Small Gift
After leaving the research center, An Lin and Su Qianyun started strolling about leisurely.
An Lin was in quite a good mood now that Gundam Number One and Gundam Number Two had received new leases on life.
His steps were spry and he hummed a joyous tune as he walked. Even the sunshine seemed warmer and more comforting.
“Student An Lin, are you going to leave soon?” Su Qianyun remembered An Lin telling her that he would return to the Heavenly Court as soon as he received the power cores.
Hearing this, An Lin nodded. “Yeah, school’s about to start in a few days. There are some things that I need to prepare before school starts.”
Actually, the main reason was that he couldn’t bear with Su Xin’s relentless advances.
Otherwise, why would An Lin be willing to depart the imperial palace so early? The food was amazing and the scenery was stunning. It was a perfect holiday destination.
As they strolled about, they had a chance encounter with a handsome male.
“Ah, it’s An Lin. What a coincidence!” Su Xin greeted him with a broad smile.
An Lin grimaced. Why did he choose to greet him before Su Qianyun?
He suddenly had a bad feeling about this.
“I’ve heard that you’re returning to school soon. I didn’t really prepare anything, so here’s just a small gift for you.” Saying this, Su Xin handed An Lin a small wooden box.
“Oh my!” Su Qianyun covered her mouth and exclaimed, “Second Brother actually prepared a gift for Student An Lin!” She looked as if she had witnessed something extraordinary.
An Lin felt uneasy about this. However, he couldn’t just reject a gift from somebody else with no good reason.
With this in mind, he could only muster his courage and accept this wooden box, expressing his heartfelt gratitude as he did so.
Su Xin patted An Lin’s shoulders, his eyes full of encouragement.
An Lin: “…”
He had a nagging feeling that this box definitely didn’t hold anything good!
If he could, he really didn’t want to accept this gift.
After bidding farewell to Su Qianyun and Su Xin, An Lin climbed onto Da Bai’s back and flew off into the skies.
Gazing at the disappearing Green Wood Imperial Palace as they soared higher and higher, An Lin took the wooden box out from his storage ring.
Looking at this “Pandora’s box”, he fell deep into thought.
Should I throw it away?
This thought suddenly flashed through his mind.
No… What if it’s something important…?
In the end, his curiosity defeated his reason.
He slowly opened the wooden box.
What appeared before his eyes was a letter which emitted a faint fragrance.
Love letter?
An Lin slowly spread open the folded letter. The first sentence entered his eyes. “Brother-in-law, I trust that you’ll be very surprised when you see this letter…”
His hands trembled upon reading this, and he almost threw the letter away.
Su Xin was absolutely spot on. An Lin was indeed very surprised when he found this letter. After reading its contents, he even became horrified!
Brother-in-law?
To hell with that!
As expected…
I should throw this wooden box away!
An Lin raised the wooden box. After a moment, he slowly put it back down.
M-hm… Let me see what he’s got to say before I throw it away.
His reason was once again crushed by his curiosity. He slowly spread open the letter and continued reading on.
“Please don’t be surprised that I referred to you as brother-in-law.” ( There was no surprise, just horror. )
“After all, you’re Yun Le’s closest male friend. You’re also the person best placed to defeat Chang’e. In the future, there really is a chance that you’ll become my brother-in-law.” ( Claiming that I’m best placed to defeat Chang’e is even more horrifying than the way you refer to me )
“I feel that even though you don’t want to pursue Yun Le now, you’ll definitely have a change of heart in the future. After all, Yun Le is such a perfect girl, don’t you think so?” ( This has nothing to do with whether she’s perfect or not! Next should be the main point, right? )
An Lin didn’t guess wrong. The next paragraph was indeed the main subject.
“When you finally wish to pursue Yun Le, you’ll be far away in the Heavenly Court. At that time, I, your brother-in-law, will be unable to help you. Thus, I specially penned this letter in the hope that I’ll be able to provide you with some help.
“Yun Le’s birthday is on… Her favorite animals are… Her favorite foods are… In the morning, she likes to… During midday, she likes to… At night she likes to practice her sword techniques. Don’t be fooled by the fact that she uses the Moonlight Disc. She’s a girl who dreams of becoming a Sword Immortal. So, you really do have a great chance of success, my brother-in-law… There are also some things that she dislikes. For example, noisy and chaotic environments… Although she may be a bit inarticulate at times, she’s a person who likes to chat and gossip…
“Your brother-in-law can only help you so much. If it still doesn’t work out, then that only proves that you two are not destined to be together. If that’s the case, then it’s not good for me to meddle any further. Lastly, I wish you success!”
Reading through this letter silently, An Lin once again fell deep into thought.
He had to admit— this brother really did worry immensely, and he went to great lengths for his little sister’s love life.
This letter left a deep impression on An Lin, and he was a bit afraid.
He was afraid that he already knew too much…
With this in mind, a raging flame erupted from his palm and burnt the wooden box and letter to crisp.
M-hm… The evidence had been destroyed.
However, the information was already imprinted in his mind. What could he do?
“Ah…” An Lin shook his head in exasperation as a sullen look appeared on his face.
Sometimes, knowing too much was not a good thing.
…
A white glow flashed across the teleportation spell formation sitting in The United University of Cultivation, and An Lin’s body slowly materialized.
Appearing with him was the miniature versions of Xiao Chou and Da Bai.
Looking at the familiar surroundings and feeling the rich vital energy, An Lin couldn’t help but suck in a deep breath. A refreshing sensation washed through his body. He had only left the university for less than a month, yet he felt like he had been away for much longer.
“Huh? An Lin! Da Bai!” A familiar voice suddenly called out at them.
An Lin turned around and saw a dark-skinned male. This male was slightly plump and was currently looking at him cheerfully.
“Holy f*ck! Liu Dabao? How did you become so dark?!” An Lin’s eyes bulged in surprise as he looked at the male standing before him.
In his memory, Liu Dabao was pale-skinned and relatively robust in build. How did he become so dark in such a short amount of time?
“Ah… It’s all a painful memory!” Liu Dabao pinched between his eyebrows and said with a pained expression, “My dad insisted that I train in some Divine Sun Technique or whatever. The introduction of this cultivation technique required me to sunbathe continuously for one entire month.”
“All I did during the holiday was lie on the beach every day. I laid there like dried meat and flipped my body around every half a day…”
Hearing this, An Lin couldn’t help but laugh.
He felt that Xiao Hong, the photosynthesis expert, would have lots to talk about with Liu Dabao once she awakened.
Then, he saw Liu Dabao’s mood suddenly become downcast, as if he was about to cry any second. “I’m so sorry,” he apologized immediately, “I couldn’t help myself…”
It would’ve been better if he didn’t apologize. Upon hearing his apology, Liu Dabao’s face darkened. But then, to begin with, his face was already extremely dark.
Liu Dabao sighed with grief. He then asked An Lin, “What about you? What did you get up to during the holiday?”
An Lin thought for a moment before answering honestly, “I got up to quite a lot. I first traveled to the Mythological Beast Sect. Then, I went to the Abyss of Evil to slaughter sinister devils. Afterward, I went to the Ten Thousand Spirits Immortal Sect to visit Xuanyuan Cheng and even came across the High Priestess of the Holy Glacial Lands trying to kidnap a male. Finally, I went on a trip to Green Wood Imperial Palace…”
Liu Dabao: “…”
An Lin noticed that there was something off about Liu Dabao’s expression. He then asked in concern, “Huh, what’s wrong?”
Liu Dabao clasped his heart and shook his head. “I’m fine, I just feel a little unwell…”
“Just let me have a moment of quiet. I’ll be fine.” He waved his hand, signaling for An Lin not to worry.
An Lin nodded. Then, a yearning look appeared on his face.
A new year had begun…
During this year, he would definitely cultivate earnestly and strive to improve every single day!
